ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Designing Generosity
As we move from the Information Age into a new "Curation Age,” where AI has made data abundant but meaning scarce, charitable giving is emerging as one of the clearest places where people translate wealth into personal and family meaning. It draws on research showing generosity's measurable benefits to donors' physical health, mental wellbeing, and happiness (including its resistance to hedonic adaptation), then examines current demographic trends showing giving is becoming more concentrated, intentional, planned, and collaborative among affluent households, with growing use of structured vehicles like donor-advised funds and foundations. The presentation also introduces newer philanthropic tools (Public Benefit Corporations, Purpose Trusts, and 501(c)(4) organizations) as ways donors can align capital and governance with mission beyond traditional charity. It closes by making the case that financial advisors who help clients navigate these purpose-driven decisions (rather than just optimizing assets) build deeper trust and stronger long-term client relationships, even when that guidance doesn't directly grow assets under management.
